Philippe Gouze grew up in the countryside surrounding Salon de Provence, France, an area rich in agriculture, and spent his summers in Minervois tending to his family’s olive orchard, picking figs and blackberries, and harvesting dinner with his grandmother.
To celebrate the completion of his MBA in marketing, Philippe spent the summer of 1988 in New York City; he fell in love with New York and made it his home. Philippe worked for Jean George Vongerichten for 9 years managing Vong in New York City, and opening other locations in the US and abroad.
His passion for gardening became apparent after moving to Rockland County with his partner, and they now have extensive vegetable and flower gardens, and raise chickens, guinea fowl, and bees. Philippe also enjoys caring for his greenhouse filled with orchids. Philippe finds Blue Hill at Stone Barns to be the perfect place to blend his passion for the land with his enthusiasm for creating an exceptional dining experience.
